3 simple ways to make your home a spiritual space
What could be more sacred than your healing space. The space where life greets the world every morning and reconciles with the world every night. Where the purest form of love is shown and the most authentic sides of humanity seen.
Create an alter
I have an alter that holds the secrets of my heart, the worries of my mind, the burdens of my shoulders, the tears of my sorrows, the insecurities of my beliefs, the lack of my faith, the joy of my laughter, the peace of my soul, the conversations silenced in fear, the petitions of my hope, the prayers of my compassion and the silence in which I find clarity. It's a place where I stand naked without masks. This alter is kept in a temple I call Home.
I have often shied away from the word ritual due to superstitions I picked up from my Christian background. I've sense come to redefine the word for myself. A ritual is no more than a habit practiced with great intention. One of the rituals I have put in place is the cleansing of my home with burning sage. As I go from room to room I speak blessings and words of gratitude. It doesn't really matter what the ritual is. The purpose of the ritual is to bring my attention back to that which I hold sacred.
I attended a neuro-transformation training workshop where I experienced myself at my best. I was surrounded by other transformational coaches who's dedication to the work made it easy for me to do my best work. We did a values discovery exercise and ranked how we were living in each value on a scale of 1 - 10. The facilitator asked for a volunteer to share their list and I volunteered. He wrote my list on the large easel pad in front of the room and walked me through the exercise as an example of how to rank them. To my surprise and very tearful joy, in that moment I ranked each one a 10. I traveled back to NC from CA with that large sticky easel paper. I placed it where it is one of the first things I see in the morning. It instantly reminds me of my true values and how I feel when I'm living in them completely.
